Breast Lift Questions

Below is a list of some frequently asked breast lift questions, but please feel free to call our office if you need additional information, 916.929.1833. We are always pleased to assist you.

Can a breast lift be combined with other procedures?
Yes. A breast lift is often performed in conjunction with other procedures at my practice in Sacramento, such as breast augmentation or a breast reduction. Many patients who undergo a procedure to alter the size of their breasts seek the benefits of a breast lift to allow them to fully enjoy their new appearance. A breast lift enhances newly enlarged or reduced breasts by presenting them as youthful, firm and shapely. Most patients who undergo a combined procedure are more than satisfied with the results.

Is a breast lift procedure painful?
I perform breast lift in Sacramento using general anesthesia or sedation, patients do not experience much pain during the actual procedure, and will not remember the procedure afterwards. After surgery, you may experience mild pain and swelling for a few days, although a support bra can help reduce discomfort. After a brief recovery, most women can enjoy their restored youthful breasts with no pain or complications.

Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?
There is no way of determining if you will be able to breastfeed after a breast lift. Some women cannot breastfeed regardless of whether or not they had surgery, while others may be affected depending on their body and the extent of their procedure. Dr. Green performs all of his surgeries with extreme care and precision in order to prevent nerve damage in the areola and minimize any possible interference with breastfeeding.

Does a breast lift cause permanent scarring?
Scarring will occur after a breast lift procedure at the incision site. Most incisions are placed in areas that can be concealed by the body or while wearing a bra or bathing suit. Over the next few months after the procedure, scars will gradually fade and will be virtually unnoticeable. Dr. Green works with his patients to help determine which incision method can provide the best results with the least amount of scarring for each individual person.

How long do the results of a breast lift last?
The results of a breast lift vary depending on each individual patient. Many can enjoy firm, youthful breasts for several years, but certain factors, such as aging, weight loss, pregnancy and gravity, can cause the tissues to weaken and the breasts to sag again.

Can I undergo more than one breast lift procedure?
Yes. While a breast lift provides an effective lifting and firming of the breasts that may last for several years, they are sometimes unable to withstand the constant effects of gravity and aging. The breasts may gradually sag again, at which time you may choose to undergo another breast lift.

When can I return to work and other regular activities after a breast lift?
For the first few days, you may experience pain and discomfort and should rest and take it easy. It is recommended to get up and move around as much as possible. Dr. Green suggests that his patients take a shower within a day after surgery. Most patients can return to work within a week of the procedure. It is important to not do any strenuous activity or lifting for at least 10 days after the procedure.

Is a breast lift covered by insurance?
Unfortunately, a breast lift is not covered by insurance because it is considered a cosmetic procedure. Dr. Green tries to provide affordable and effective breast procedures to allow as many potential patients as possible enjoy the advantages of these procedures.
