Breast Lift Sacramento

Intro

Breast Lift SacramentoDrooping breasts can be an unfortunate side effect of aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss. Breasts may also sag as a result of heredity or a birth defect, and can occur in one or both breasts. These factors, along with a loss of skin elasticity and the effects of gravity, can gradually affect the shape and firmness of your breasts, causing the nipple position to fall and the breasts to sag.

Breasts that are of satisfactory size but have a pendulous feel may benefit from a breast lift at the Sacramento practice of Dr. Scott Green. A breast lift can help raise and firm sagging breasts and restore a more youthful appearance by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. This results in breasts that are higher on the chest and firmer to the touch, while still maintaining a natural look and feel.

Choosing Breast Lift Surgery

If you are interested in breast lift surgery, you can discuss the procedure and your desired results with Dr. Green in a preliminary consultation. During this appointment, Dr. Green will discuss the benefits and risks of breast lift surgery, and help you determine which technique may be right for you.

You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if:

  • You feel that your breasts sag, or have lost shape and volume
  • You have breasts with a flatter and elongated shape
  • Your nipples fall below the breast crease when unsupported
  • Your nipples and areolas point downward
  • You have one breast that is lower than the other
  • You are not satisfied with the size of your breasts

It is also important that potential patients:

  • Have realistic expectations
  • Do not smoke
  • Are physically healthy

While breast lift surgery does not normally interfere with pregnancy, it is recommended that women who are planning to have a baby postpone their surgery, as the results of the lift may be reversed from the breast skin stretching. Similarly, a breast lift can be performed at any age, but it is recommended to wait until the breasts are fully developed both after puberty and after pregnancy and breastfeeding. A breast lift does not usually interfere with breastfeeding.

Types

There are three main techniques that are used most frequently in breast lift surgery. They include:

  • Standard Anchor Technique – The anchor pattern breast lift is the most commonly used technique and involves a circular incision around the areola, a vertical incision below the areola and a curved incision along the breast crease. This technique does cause scarring that may be visible when the patient is wearing lingerie or a bathing suit. This procedure is best for women with larger, sagging breasts.
  • Concentric (Doughnut) Technique (also known as Binelli or Crescent technique) – A doughnut breast lift offers less scarring and shorter recovery times than a standard procedure. During this procedure, two circular incisions are made around the circumference of the areola. The skin in between these incisions (shaped like a doughnut) is then removed, and the remaining skin is reattached to the areola. Wrinkling around the nipple may occur, but this technique is considered less invasive overall.
  • Vertical Technique (also known as the Lollipop technique) – A vertical technique breast lift is similar to the doughnut technique, but the incisions in this procedure extend below the areola to the breast crease. This allows for extra skin to be removed and greater lift correction.

Before Surgery

Before surgery, Dr. Green will ask for your medical history, including current medications, and perform a medical evaluation and baseline mammogram when age appropriate. Photos of the breast are taken before the procedure in order to evaluate the problem areas and how to effectively improve the appearance of the breasts. They also help Dr. Green identify aspects like symmetry and how the breasts hang during surgery while the patient is lying down. Smokers will be advised to stop smoking well in advance of surgery. Certain medications such as aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs should be avoided before surgery as well, as they can cause increased bleeding.

On the day of the procedure, you will meet with Dr. Green, and his surgical staff, who will briefly discuss their role in the procedure before beginning. Breast lift surgery can take place in a hospital, outpatient center or in the doctor’s personal operating room.
