Procedure

Breast Lift Surgery SacramentoBreast lift surgery can be performed through several different techniques, depending on the desired results of the patient as well as the individual qualities of the breast.

A breast lift is performed under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. For all of Dr. Green's surgeries, anesthesia is administered by a board-certified medical doctor specially trained in anesthesia. Dr. Green will determine which type of medication is the best choice for each patient. Unless a minor procedure, most are performed under general anesthesia, which puts the patient to sleep and let them feel no pain. Patients awaken with no memory of the surgery. Patients will need someone to drive them home after their procedure as the effects of anesthesia may take several hours to disappear.

After the anesthesia is administered, the incisions are made. The shape and location of the incision depends on the technique used for each patient. Once the incisions are made, Dr. Green lifts and reshapes the breast by moving the breast tissue, repositioning the nipple and areola to a higher and more youthful height, and removing excess breast skin. After reshaping is complete, the remaining skin is tightened and the incisions are closed.

The incision lines will remain visible after the procedure and are usually permanent, although some fading is likely to occur. Some incision lines are also hidden within the natural contours of the breast.

A breast lift is commonly performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures, most commonly breast augmentation. During this combined procedure, some breast tissue may be removed, the skin in the breast is tightened and implants are inserted.

Recovery

After breast lift surgery, dressings or bandages are applied to the incisions to help them heal properly. An elastic band or special support bra should be worn for a few weeks to minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal. As a specialist in breast procedures, Dr. Green takes your recovery into consideration when performing breast lift surgery, and allows most patients to return to work within a few days. Full recovery usually takes two to three weeks.

Results

The results of a breast lift are visible immediately after surgery. As post-surgery swelling diminishes and incision lines fade, the actual results will continue to develop. Most patients are extremely satisfied with the results of their new image as recovery progresses and are then able to enjoy a restored youthful appearance.

While a breast lift offers long-term results of raised and firmed breasts, you may eventually need another procedure to maintain these results. As the effects of gravity and aging progress, your breasts may begin to sag again and may benefit from a minor "touch-up" procedure. You can help preserve the effects of your breast lift for longer by maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle.

Risks

Since a breast lift is a major surgical procedure, there are several risks involved. Dr. Green can explain these risks in further detail and help you decide if the potential benefits outweigh these risks. Some of the risks involved with breast lift surgery include:

  • Scarring
  • Infection
  • Anesthesia complications
  • Poor incision healing
  • Changes in breast or nipple sensation

It is important to learn as much as you can before undergoing breast lift surgery. As a breast procedure specialist, Dr. Green will be happy to answer any questions and concerns you may have to help you make your decision. You should also discuss any feelings, whether anxious, stressed or exciting, with Dr. Green before your procedure.
